Product Description
Atmospheric Valve Product Introduction
Overview

An Atmospheric Valve (also called a breather valve or vacuum relief valve) is a safety device designed to regulate pressure in storage tanks by allowing air inflow/outflow to maintain equilibrium with atmospheric pressure. It prevents tank damage from overpressure (during filling) or vacuum (during emptying).

Key Features & Benefits
  • Dual-Action Protection - Combines pressure relief + vacuum relief in one unit
  • Prevents Tank Collapse/Explosion - Maintains safe ±0.2-1.0 PSI range
  • Weather-Resistant - Stainless steel or aluminum construction with rain hood
  • Fire-Safe Design - Fusible ring melts to allow emergency venting (API 2000 compliant)
  • Low Maintenance - No moving parts, self-cleaning mesh filter
Types & Configurations
Type Function Applications
Pressure/Vacuum (P/V) Valve Balanced breather for bidirectional flow Fuel tanks, chemical storage
Vacuum Breaker Prevents tank implosion only Dairy tanks, pharmaceutical vessels
Emergency Vent High-capacity pressure release Crude oil tanks, LNG storage
Flame Arrester Valve Stops flame propagation Hazardous material tanks (ATEX Zone 1)
Technical Specifications
  • Set Pressure Range: 0.1-5 PSI (adjustable)
  • Connection Size: 1" to 8" NPT/Flange (ANSI/DIN standards)
  • Temperature Range: -40°C to +200°C (high-temp models available)
  • Flow Capacity: 10-10,000 m³/h (depends on valve size)
  • Certifications: API 2000, ISO 28300, ATEX, PED
Applications
  • Oil & Gas: Crude oil storage tanks, LNG terminals
  • Chemical Industry: Solvent/acid storage vessels
  • Food/Beverage: Edible oil tanks, fermentation containers
  • Agriculture: Grain silos, fertilizer storage
  • Water Treatment: Sealed wastewater tanks
Working Principle
  1. Overpressure Scenario:
    • Tank pressure exceeds setpoint → Valve opens to release air/gas
  2. Vacuum Scenario:
    • Tank pressure drops below atmospheric → Valve admits ambient air
  3. Normal Conditions:
    • Valve remains closed to prevent vapor loss/contamination
Selection Guide
  1. Tank Type: Fixed roof (needs P/V valve) vs. floating roof (needs vacuum breaker)
  2. Fluid Properties: Corrosive? Flammable? (Material compatibility check required)
  3. Flow Demand: Calculate required venting capacity based on tank filling/emptying rate
  4. Regulations: API 2000 for oil tanks, FDA standards for food-grade applications
Installation & Maintenance
Critical Notes:
  • Install on tank roof/non-flooded vent lines
  • Orient rain hood downward to prevent water ingress
  • Inspect every 6 months for clogging (clean mesh filter if needed)
  • Replace fusible elements after fire incidents
Why Choose Our Atmospheric Valves?
  • Leak-Free Sealing - PTFE-coated diaphragms for tight closure
  • Custom Solutions - Sizes, materials, and set pressures tailored to your tank
  • Third-Party Tested - Flow performance verified by independent labs
  • Global Compliance - Meets API, ISO, ATEX, and local safety codes
