Product Description
Ingersoll-Rand Oil-Gas Separator 03340028 - High Quality Screw Air Compressor Parts
Product Introduction: Oil-Gas Separator
What is an Oil-Gas Separator?

An Oil-Gas Separator is a critical pressure vessel used primarily in the oil and gas industry to separate wellstream fluids into their constituent components: liquid hydrocarbons (oil), water, and natural gas. It is the first major piece of production equipment through which the wellstream flows after leaving the wellhead, designed to handle raw, high-pressure flow and produce marketable or pipeline-ready phases by exploiting the differences in fluid densities.

Key Functions & Purposes

The primary function of an oil-gas separator is to achieve a clean phase separation. Its specific purposes include:

  • Primary Phase Separation: Dividing the wellstream into gas, oil, and water for independent handling and measurement.
  • Liquid Hydrocarbon Recovery: Maximizing the amount of saleable oil extracted from the gas stream.
  • Gas De-Liquefication: Removing liquid entrainment (mist and droplets) from the gas phase to produce clean, dry gas suitable for compression or sale.
  • Pressure Reduction & Control: Serving as the first point of significant pressure drop in the production system, allowing for stable control of the well.
  • Foam Suppression: Breaking down foamy crude oil to allow for efficient separation and accurate level control.
How It Works (Operating Principle)

Separators operate on the fundamental principle of gravity segregation, enhanced by mechanical internals:

  1. Inlet & Primary Separation: The high-velocity, multi-phase flow enters the vessel through an inlet diverter, which performs an abrupt change in flow direction and momentum.
  2. Gravity Settling Section: The gas flows horizontally across the vessel as its velocity drops, causing liquid droplets to fall into the collection section below.
  3. Mist Extraction: The gas passes through a mist eliminator (mesh pad or vane pack) to capture remaining fine droplets.
  4. Liquid Separation & Collection: Separated liquids (oil and water) collect in the bottom of the vessel and separate based on density.
  5. Level & Pressure Control: Controllers and valves maintain proper levels and regulate pressure for stable operation.
